Kingfisher House

Providing Quality Dementia Care

Private Luxury Dementia Care

Kingfisher House opened 7th June 2021, in the heart of Devonport, Auckland New Zealand.

Our innovative model of care is an alternative to traditional aged care facilities. Smaller care environments have been proven to increase quality of life, reduce rates of depression and reduce hospitalisation for people living with dementia.

If you would like to visit us, we would love to meet you!
Please contact Belinda or Alka and organise a time to pop in.

Our Point Of Difference

The Eden Alternative® is an approach to care that recognises the importance of treating a person’s heart as well as heart condition. While we do our best to heal bodies, we must feed spirits.

Meaningful engagement

Our homes are warm and open with the familiar atmosphere of a traditional home.

Superior health outcomes

Research shows that health outcomes in smaller environments are superior to traditional nursing homes.

Freedom routines

Unlike residential aged care facilities, we don’t have rigid schedules. Residents wake up in their own time, set their own meal times and have visitors when they want.

"Feels like home"

Our homes are warm and open with the familiar atmosphere of a traditional home.

We have been setting a new standard for dementia care in New Zealand since  2005.

Services

Our focus extends beyond a diagnosis of dementia.

Dementia Care

We work closely with the families of our residents living with dementia to choose the right home based on care needs and common interests. This helps residents to engage with others in the home and form beautiful connections.

Clinical Support

Our highly skilled registered nurses are on site or on call 24/7, and can help out with all complex clinical care in our home .

Respite Care

We offer a range of respite options from day to overnight care. Our Support Team will work with you to accommodate your preferences around location, dates and availability.

Check out our other facilities

How Much Does It Cost?

Government Funding

The current district health board set base fee is $1,310.33 per week ($187.19 per day) exclusive of GST.

If you meet the Asset Testing Threshold, the bulk of your fee may be covered by the District Health Board’s residential subsidy.

This base fee covers all meals, 24 hour care, nursing, doctors visits, Pharmac funded medication, standard incontinence products, activities, and scheduled outings.

We carry a premium charge for our rooms on top of the base fee, due to the size and access of rooms, the extra services we offer and staffing ratios.

Premium Surcharge

We have fully subsidised rooms available for DHB funded residents – some rooms carry a premium ranging from $250 – $550 +GST.
